IP Address Utility - Ping Test Tool

Ping Test Tool

This ping test tool allows you to check the connectivity and response time of any server or website. Enter a hostname or IP address below to start the test.

Understanding Ping Tests

A ping test is a basic network diagnostic tool that measures the round-trip time for packets sent from your computer to a specific destination. It helps determine whether a host is reachable across an Internet Protocol (IP) network and how long it takes for packets to travel to and from that host.

How Ping Works

The ping command uses the Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) Echo Request and Echo Reply messages to determine:

Interpreting Ping Results

Round-Trip Time (RTT)

The time it takes for a ping packet to reach the destination and return to the source, measured in milliseconds (ms).

  • Less than 30ms: Excellent latency, ideal for real-time applications
  • 30-50ms: Good latency, suitable for most online activities
  • 50-100ms: Average latency, acceptable for general use
  • 100-300ms: High latency, may cause noticeable delays
  • More than 300ms: Very high latency, likely to cause significant delays

Packet Loss

The percentage of packets that don't reach their destination or don't return to the source.

  • 0%: Perfect, no packets lost
  • 1-2%: Minimal loss, generally not noticeable
  • 3-10%: Moderate loss, may cause some issues
  • More than 10%: Significant loss, likely to cause noticeable problems
